On March 5th the community marched together to help 6 local and essential resources to those in bad situations but we don’t have to wait till next year to continue to support them, you can do it anytime!

Look through the programs, maybe you’ll see a way that you can bring your strengths to help them. For example, OSHARE’s Hot Meal Program is one I personally have decided to help because it makes sense to my situation, living close and doing the cooking at home, it’s a no brainer for me.

YMCA Housing Support Services

How you can help? Monetary Donations

Emergency Shelter: In a situation where you may not have a roof over your and your loved ones heads to sleep, all you need to do is contact a YMCA Housing Support Worker at 519-371-9230. Safe N Sound helps too see them below!

Assistance With Income Support Applications: YMCA Housing Support Service can point you in the direction of what applications can aide you and assist in filling them out.

Landlord/Tenant Mediation: If you feel that asking your Landlord for some sort of agreement will cause you anxiety or anger (leading to Landlords getting anxiety about you) why not ask someone professionally trained to do the talking for the best outcome for both of you.

United Way of Bruce Grey’s (Utility Program)

How you can help? Monetary Donations

Utility Assistance Program: Provides grants, of up to $500 per funding source or utility, to low-income residents in arrears or are at risk of disconnection, or are already disconnected.

211: A very easy number to remember that can help connect you to those who can best help, any questions? Dial 211, you’d be shocked at how many solutions there are!

Safe ‘n Sound (Housing Crisis Support)

Safe ‘n Sound provides safe emergency shelter and support for homeless people, in partnership with community services, and public education and advocacate for homelessness prevention.

The CMHA offers a huge variety of services for those suffering from mental health disorders, one of which is their brunch program which feeds it’s members. The stories we heard from actual members of how they got their first job, how they found safety and purpose was great to hear, listen for yourself!
