Saugeen Shores council has tentatively approved a Nut Aware and Education Policy for patrons and users within municipal facilities, including outdoor canteens.

Promotional material will encourage guests and staff to avoid bringing foods that contain nuts into municipal facilities.

This policy complements the existing Allergy Aware Policy.

Staff have been trained on how to deal with anaphylaxis as part of standard first aid certification.

Canteen providers, groups and individuals booking municipal facilities have been made aware of the policy, and have agreed to enforce the policy where applicable.

Signage and awareness of ingredients in food being served will be the responsibility of the renter, as outlined in renter contract.

“Patron safety is of utmost importance. The Nut Aware and Education Policy will help to protect those with allergies when using municipal facilities, and demonstrates our continued commitment to inclusion” said Mayor Mike Smith.
