High winds and snow have resulted in pockets of power outages overnight.

The largest was in the Port Elgin and Southampton area where about 80 customers were without hydro as of around 8 Thursday night.

It now appears as if almost everyone in that area has had their hydro restored.

However Westario says there are still a few customers who will be in the dark for a while yet.

Approximately 15 customers (including the Dr. Earl Medical Clinic), along Goderich St. between Biener Dr. and River Street in Port Elgin, will remain without power for an extended period of time as Westario Power crews continue restoration efforts.

Goderich Street will remain closed along this section while crews work to replace equipment affected by the outage.

All affected customers have been notified of the extended outage; which is expected to last throughout Friday and into Saturday morning.

Westario Power customers in the Town of Southampton (Island St/Cedar Bush Dr. and Meadow Ln/Creekwoood Dr. areas) remain without power.

Crews will be dispatched as they become available.

There are also small pockets of less than 20 customers in and around Wiarton, Owen Sound and Meaford.

The restoration time given on Hydro One’s website is noon Friday.
