Naming committee looking for public to vote
Staff and students in Owen Sound are looking ahead to next September when they move into a new school with a brand new name.
After last year’s controversial accommodation review by the Bluewater District School Board, students from Sydenham and Bayview schools will be merging at the former OSCVI next fall.
A naming committee made up of students, teachers, staff and trustees have narrowed the choices down to six as suggested back in November.
* East Escarpment Community School
* East Ridge Community School
* East Union Community School (paying homage to the former street name “Union”)
* Eastview Community School
* Elizabeth Laird Community School (acclaimed female physicist born in Owen Sound)
* Tom Thomson Community School
The public now have an opportunity to vote until January 20th at www.surveymonkey.com/r/SHLK8VN
There is also a facebook group “Name Our School Owen Sound”.
And there are ballot boxes at the following locations~
Owen Sound Hospital
Bayshore Community Centre
Owen Sound Library
Julie McArthur Rec Centre
The name receiving the most votes will then go on to Bluewater trustees where they are expected to announce it at their first meeting in February.
