The entire community of Chesley is rallying round a local family struck by tragedy.

As we reported Monday morning, fire has gutted a home and also a young family.

While no one has officially confirmed the details, neighbours have told reporters the father perished while trying to rescue his two daughters.

None of them made it out.

The mother and a third child, a baby, did manage to survive and that’s where the community is now focusing.

A Go Fund Me page set up for the Mitchell family has already exceeded its $10,000 goal and continues to rise.

Collections have been started for clothing and baby items while a number of businesses around Chesley have set out jars to collect cash.

Family members tell Dock News, the house next door, occupied by an elderly couple, has also been destroyed.

The Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
