The Chatsworth Arena won’t be closing it’s doors until September 30th, but the problems plaguing the building have forced organizers to cancel the Chatsworth Fall Fair.

In May, an engineering report on the Chatsworth Community Centre building identified problems with mold and with the structure itself. As a result, the building will be officially shuttered by the Township of Chatsworth at the end of September.

“Our predominant concern is for the safety, health and well-being of people who attend our Fair, and of our members and countless volunteers,” explained McKay. “The Board felt that using the building for the Fair in mid-September involved too many uncertainties, and the possibility of unacceptable risks.”

President McKay noted the extraordinary support of the community for the Fall Fair over many years, and in turn the importance to Chatsworth and area of the Fair and other events sponsored by the Agricultural Society.

“We really regret this turn of events,” said McKay, “but it is temporary. We want the community to know that the Board has already started working towards a bigger and better Fair for 2018.”

McKay said that implications and details related to the cancellation will be dealt with by the Board in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the township of Chatsworth is holding a farewell to the Arena and asking the community to invite old friends, schoolmates, and work colleagues to reminisce.

The celebration will happen on September 30th.
